About

The Avengers Movie Revew / Avengers Blu-Ray Release

The avengers really has just blown-up in the theaters, shattering box office records.  This movie has made insane amounts of money - as of press time it has made over one billion dollars worldwide - so I'm pretty sure any review I'll do won't speed up or stop anyone from going to this movie.

I as a rule of thumb generally expect any movie starring an ensemble of such high profile heroes to suck.  With so much star power packed into only one flick the idea of each character getting their fair share of screen time seems daunting, but they pulled it off.  Luckily, at least four of the characters making up this The Avengers are well known enough to warrant getting their own films before this film was even made.  Once each character is properly introduced the action moves in such a way that each person has their specific duty and purpose, allowing them their time to shine before cutting to the next character.  Even when not engaged in the action sequences their individual stories are presented to the audience carefully.  What’s more, this film doesn’t just leave off by setting up Avengers 2 (though it does that as well), it also sets up each character sequels.  No doubt sequels are on the way(Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and CaptainAmerica 2 have already been announced).  This type of care in the script and onscreen is an investment for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it works well.  These guys sure know how to make money.  This series hopefully has the potential to turn into some crazy shit.

Basically, I usually expect comic movies of this size to suck.  With the intricate characters the crazy science fiction/special effects that are possible with some of the storylines available in comic books I don't expect they can do it justice.  Luckily I'm wrong.  I suppose they just have to stay away from certain storylines.

I'm still waiting for someone to have the juice and the paper to pull out Galactus out!  He was sort of introduced in the Fantastic Four -maybe with a Silver Surfer solo movie in mind but, bring him out of the clouds!

The Avengers Blu-Ray

Disney/Marvel look like they've plans to make major cash of this and it looks promising.

Also worth mentioning is that Marvel is planning on releasing something called The Avengers Initiative: A Marvel Second Screen App in July. You'll be able to download this onto your phone or tablet or whatnot and view exclusive content in the weeks leading up to the Avengers Blu-ray/DVD release. Marvel will be releasing new content to the app on a biweekly basis during July and August, then weekly once we hit September.
