I've been looking at 9.2 channel Home Theater Receivers lately and must admit,  if you're looking for a reciver with some juice?  Its not hard to find.

Here's the Onkyo TX-NR3009.

The TX-NR3009 sports a huge array of digital and analog connections, including eight 3D-ready HDMI® inputs, 9.2 multichannel pre-outs(More on speaker placement and setup ), and a USB input for connecting flash drives and digital audio players. An Ethernet jack, meanwhile, supports networked content in the form of internet radio and streaming audio from a PC or media server. Processing, too, is top-class. Audyssey MultEQ® XT32 achieves optimal balance for movie soundtracks and breathtaking realism for music sources. Along with sophisticated surround-sound technologies from Dolby and Audyssey, the TX-NR3009 employs DTS Neo:X™ to create an immersive nine-channel soundscape from any audio source. Video sources also get the red-carpet treatment, thanks to HQV® Vida™ processing, independent ISF calibration, and 4K upscaling via Qdeo™ technology. Onkyo’s dedication to build quality is reflected in the low-resonance chassis, multiple transformers, three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry, and high-grade audio terminals. All this and more earns the TX-NR3009 coveted THX® Ultra2 Plus™ certification—your guarantee of an ovation-worthy performance every time.

When it come to connectivity?  The TX-NR3009 has what you'll need

Onkyo leads the pack again in amazingly outstanding sound quality with DTS Neo:X. The TX-NR3009 is one of the first A/V receivers in the world to feature DTS Neo:X, a new technology that offers a multitude of ways to set up the speakers in a 9.1-channel home theater system. A basic 5.1-channel set-up can be complemented by one of three different arrangements:

(1) You can add surround back and front-height speakers to bring out ambient, non-directional sounds;

(2) You can add surround back and front-wide speakers to provide a more expansive soundstage; or

(3) You can add front-height and front-width speakers to create an immersive space without needing to install rear speakers.

USB, iPod/iPhone Connectivity
The TX-NR609 front-panel USB port lets audio files stored on your iPod/iPhone or USB flash drive . The convenient on screen display lets you see exactly what is playing. As the audio signals are transported in digital form, rather than analog, there is much less chance for signal degradation. The TX-NR609 also incorporates Onkyo's exclusive Advanced Music Optimizer to compensate for lost bit information and improve the quality of compressed audio signals.
End result: your music sounds cleaner and more faithful to the original.

The sophisticated HQV® Vida VHD1900 processor enhances the quality of both standard-definition and high-def video sources. The chip employs multicadence tracking, expanded 12-bit color processing, and four-field motion-adaptive de-interlacing to optimize video quality and detail. Two new HQV technologies are at work here: Auto HQV® - which automatically enhances the incoming image, and HQV StreamClean™ cleans up compressed video in real time by eliminating mosquito and block noise from lower-quality sources such as online video sites.

WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) was developed for our amplifiers to handle the sonic demands of high-resolution formats—including DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD. WRAT provides an improved dynamic S/N ratio and better delivery of momentary power peaks from all other formats, including high-definition and regular DVDs, HD broadcasts, and digital files such as MP3s and gaming.

4K Support Via Marvell Qdeo

The TX-NR3009 offers full 4K (3840 x 2160) upscaling of standard video sources such as 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i/p. Interlaced-to-progressive conversion and scaling are performed by a high-quality Marvell Qdeo® video-processing chip. Qdeo® is a versatile video processor that uses algorithms designed to erase video noise and artifacts such as jaggies and feathering. Played back on a compatible widescreen display, your Blu-ray Discs and DVDs will look more detailed and cinematic than ever.  This feature is something that became a possibility with the emergence of HDMI 1.4a click here if you need to know more.

Network Connectivity
 One of the most vital futureproof features new products must have in my opinion is the network connectivity.  I'll tell you.  As a home theater enthusiast.  I wish they did this with receivers 10 years ago.  It would have made my life a hell of a lot easier with regards to accessing digital media over my theater or A/V receiver.

The TX-NR3009 brings to life a wide range of Internet Radio sources such as Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster, Slacker, Sirius Internet Radio, MediaFly and vTuner with unprecedented power and fidelity. Adding to its tremendous versatility is the TX-NR3009's compatibility with Microsoft's Windows7 platform which includes the DLNA "Play To" media-streaming feature. Having your receiver connected to the internet also means you can easily update its firmware. To interact, it has an on screen guide!

A high end AVR is always a tricky as it needs to equal or exceed the performance of any other AVR or AV processor with multi channel power amp combination. I haven't heard anything else that comes close to what the TX NR3009 serves at this price range .
