Yamaha YHT-493BL 5.1 System

Still with the theme of cheap/affordable solutions I've decided to move up a little.  For the most part, you get what you pay for.  When you pay $50 for a surround sound system?  Expect to throw it away when your done with it within a 2 year period.

The previous two surround systems I had posted are as previously stated, a "last resort" or "only option" in my opinion.  If you look in the menu above you'll find several options within the speaker section under "speaker packages" or under the "hometheaterbox" section that will give you countless high quality affordable options that will not only impress you but I would recommend (and will last you longer than one year).

Yamaha YHT-493BL 5.1 Channel 500 Watt HTiB System

What we have here is a solid Affordable home theater in a box developed by Yamaha.  The first thing you must know when buying a system is that power ratings (eg.100w or 1000w..etc) and several other specifications can be extremely misleading and as a result you should understand which are accurate and which aren't.  You can take a look in "What you need to know in the menu if you want to educate yourself on all kinds of home theater instruction.

Power ratings are the first thing that I mention because many manufacturers give you a power rating that doesn't represent an accurate RMS rating. For more information on choosing home theater components and TRUE Power and power ratings click here.

Long story short.  Yamaha power ratings are accurate as a result, the power behind your speakers is solid.

Now as you can see this receiver included in this 5.1 surround system has a lot of features that make it functional with several of today's technologies.  While the speakers aren't ideal the sound created from the receivers through these timbermatched speakers is excellent.  The major benefit to purchasing a package like this with a solid receiver is that as time progresess and if you happen to come accross the money or a good deal you can upgrade the speakers.  The receiver has a good strong RMS power rating that will power good quality speakers.  When purchasing a lot of cheap systems, you don't have this option because the power ratings aren't as solid or the receiver is made for the speakers making it what I call a "throw away system".  Receivers purchased in packages like this can be used forever.

As I had explained previously, there are a few options in this category (Quality Affordable Surround Sound options) that can be good home theater/pc/media systems that I would recommend.  Take a look in the menu under "hometheaterbox" or under "speaker packages" for 5.1 or 7.1 packages for futureproof hardware at affordable prices.

I hope my site cuts down on your research time.  I'm sure you can find something or someone better to do with your time ;)
