Onkyo BD-SP309 3D HD Blu-ray Player

Onkyo's press release Aprill 11th has revealed a new line of  products.  Four home theatre in a box kits (HTiB), a new mid-line receiver and a 3D Blu-Ray player.  I'll take a look at all their products here at Tech n Tings but we'll start here.

For those who want the ability to play Blu-ray and the ability to benefit of certain HTPC options while maintaining space effective solutions without the configuration should check this out.  The new ONKYO BD-SP30.

Onkyo recently released (April 11th) first 3D Blu-ray player. The new ONKYO BD-SP309 will play Full HD 3D content and stream advanced lossless codecs via HDMI. It comes with two USB ports (one on the front the other on the back) for external storage connectivity and has on demand internet services including Pandora, NetFlix and VUDU via the Ethernet port or the UWF-1 wireless dongle.

With the BD-SP309, standard DVD sources at various resolutions--480p, 720p, or 1080i--can be upscaled to 1080p for playback on a compatible high-definition display. Its HDMI interface supports lossless studio sound quality of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio which is essential for Blu-ray and an accurate home theater playback. The two USB ports also allow you to play media from a variety of storage devices.

No HDMI, Optical, Coaxial connections?
One thing you must recognize if you're considering purchasing this product is that it is all HDMI.  I found this an interesting development.  There are no analog outs so if you are using an old receiver and it doesn't support HDMI, Optical or Coaxial connectivity (digital) then your SOL.  However, if you're buying a 3D product like this then it's likely you're hardware can handle it.  Besides that this product is an excellent buy as it does have the optical and coaxial outputs to handle those who haven't upgraded receivers to HDMI.

Now the Onkyo BD-SP309  is a couple hundred dollars less than similar products on the market and as a result its a great buy.(MSRP $249)
