Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz

Explained by Onkyo:
Onkyo A/V receivers handle two new surround-sound technologies from Audyssey and Dolby that offer exciting new ways to set up the speakers in your home theater system. Audyssey DSX lets you augment a standard 7.1-channel surround set-up with two “front wide” channels. Two extra speakers expand the width of the soundstage and help to produce a more realistic and immersive listening experience. Alternatively, Audyssey DSX can be configured to deliver “front height” channels. These channels carry ambient, non-directional audio that adds a new vertical dimension to your movies and games. Dolby Pro Logic IIz provides a similar front-height speaker option that likewise works to create a more enveloping home theater experience.

Decoding Capabilities
THX Certified receivers used to be only reserved for the most expensive stuff on the market.  While the vast majority of movies aren't developed in THX audio it is synonomous for quality sound. Pictures like Star Wars (Lucasfilms) are THX movies and I'm sure you can tell from the audio tracks.  However, more importantly the TX-NR 609 Decodes and is compatible with, 7.1 DTS-HD MA and Dolby True HD lossless audio.  As well as Dolby Digital Plus, PLIIz.
In other words, it decodes everything from your Jurrassic Park DVD that you've been telling yourself not to throw away, to your brand new Blu-ray HD remake of Fifth Element.  It will handle any HD audio you throw at it.  The system also has the standard surround sound fields that you can generally force on any signal (usually 2 channel).

iPod with avrUSB, iPod/iPhone Connectivity
The TX-NR609 front-panel USB port lets audio files stored on your iPod/iPhone or USB flash drive . The convenient on screen display lets you see exactly what is playing. As the audio signals are transported in digital form, rather than analog, there is much less chance for signal degradation. The TX-NR609 also incorporates Onkyo's exclusive Advanced Music Optimizer to compensate for lost bit information and improve the quality of compressed audio signals.
End result: your music sounds cleaner and more faithful to the original.

4K Support Via Marvell Qdeo

Hmmmm should I stick with 1080p?
The TX-NR609 offers full 4K (3840 x 2160) upscaling of standard video sources such as 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i/p. Interlaced-to-progressive conversion and scaling are performed by a high-quality Marvell Qdeo® video-processing chip. Qdeo® is a versatile video processor that uses algorithms designed to erase video noise and artifacts such as jaggies and feathering. Played back on a compatible widescreen display, your Blu-ray Discs and DVDs will look more detailed and cinematic than ever.  This feature is something that became a possibility with the emergence of HDMI 1.4a click here if you need to know more.

Network Connectivity
One of the most vital futureproof features new products must have in my opinion is the network connectivity.  I'll tell you.  As a home theater enthusiast.  I wish they did this with receivers 10 years ago.  It would have made my life a hell of a lot easier with regards to accessing digital media over my theater or A/V receiver.

Now, receivers like The TX-NR609 brings to life a wide range of Internet Radio sources such as Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster, Slacker, Sirius Internet Radio, MediaFly and vTuner with unprecedented power and fidelity. Adding to its tremendous versatility is the TX-NR609's compatibility with Microsoft's Windows7 platform which includes the DLNA "Play To" media-streaming feature. Having your receiver connected to the internet also means you can easily update its firmware. To interact, it has an on screen guide!

I review a lot of products and this is a beautiful thing.  With the features and the price you cannot go wrong.  If you are considering this product.  Stop and just get it.  You cannot obtain these features and True Power like this for this price.  If I didn't already have 3 Theaters today I would by one.  Hell, I still might :)  Oh I forgot to mention, I know some of you out there are into shining and bling and all that crap.  It comes in silver too :)

Check it out here.  Its perfect!
