Customized SONY Sound System for Ford Focus 2012

Fords 2012 Focus is putting a 355W surround system designed by Sony.  Ford made a press release today showing the interior of the new Focus with an eight-inch screen as the user interface within the car.

Ford says this system will work with Ford Sync and MyFord Touch Technology.  Voice command and steering wheel controls are built in, as well.

Now the reason this caught my attention ...well the last Focus I ever sat in was a 2009 Ford Focus;  The interior looked like this...

And take a look at the 2012 Focus interior...

The system is a class-D digital amplifier that was developed specifically for the Ford Focus system. Durable polypropylene main speakers combine with soft dome tweeters and a subwoofer, all driven by a nine-channel amp. These components yield 355w RMS, resulting in a maximum of 111 decibels bass sound pressure level.

Coupled with available Ford SYNC and MyFord Touch driver connect technology, The Ford Focus will have an 8-inch touch screen for control over media along with the convenience of voice commands and steering wheel controls. Recorded content can be accessed from a variety of sources, including CD, MP3 audio(iPod), USB and bluetooth.

MyFord Touch looks like pretty cool technology.  If you ask me, Ford`s introduction of this feature will force all manufacturers to make such technology commonplace in every car over the next few years.  Check it out here.....

HD Radio or digital transmission radio technology is the last feature of this system.  Sony and Ford claim the sound quality of the Focus audio system is dramatic – FM sounds like a CD and AM sounds like today’s FM broadcasts. And unlike analog broadcasts, digital broadcasts are less susceptible to interference, fadeout and other issues.  With tagging technology brought by Sony, you can tag songs off the HD radio and sync it with your iPod and buy audio from iTunes.

The 2012 Ford Focus is powered by 2.0L DOHC inline 4-clyinder unit with twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), direct gasoline injection and E85 flex fuel capability. The engine produces 160-hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. The 2012 Focus is offered in S, SE, SEL and Titanium trim-levels with prices starting at $16,270.
